Saturn Pulls Back the Curtain
One of the most fascinating shifts in astrology happened this week. Saturn stationed retrograde in Aries as the North Node entered Aquarius and the South Node entered Leo. Within days, the Aquarius Full Moon conjoins Pluto, shining a spotlight on the collective. Together, these transits tell one story.
The South Node in Leo drains what has become excessive. Leo rules kings, celebrities, leaders, performers, and those who believe they are above the rules. Aquarius reminds us that we're all interconnected.
This Full Moon made me think about Tall Poppy Syndrome, a phrase popular in Australia and New Zealand. It describes the tendency to criticize or "cut down" people who rise above the crowd. At its healthiest, it's rooted in an Aquarian ideal of egalitarianism, the belief that everyone deserves equal dignity and respect. At its worst, it becomes resentment toward anyone who succeeds or stands out.
The astrology asks a deeper question. Are people being criticized simply because they shine? Or are positions of power being examined because ego, arrogance, and unchecked authority have gone too far?
Saturn retrograde pulls back the tape. We are seeing the symbolism play out in multiple collective stories.
The World is on Fire
Spain and France are battling catastrophic wildfires that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people. President Emmanuel Macron compared the destruction to the devastation of World War II. Aries is a fire sign. It rules flames, conflict, and war. Saturn represents hardship, consequences, and loss. Together, they remind us that destructive fires, both literal and metaphorical, leave scars that take years to heal.
Accountability in Leadership
Military leadership is also under increasing scrutiny. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faced intense questioning before Congress over the objectives and costs of the conflict with Iran. At nearly the same time, reported U.S. military casualties associated with the conflict were revised dramatically upward, and operations slowed amid growing concerns about sustaining munitions inventories. Saturn delays and retrogrades expose. Saturn reminds us that resources, including military ones, are limited.
Leadership itself is being tested. At the White House Correspondents' Dinner, President Trump drew criticism after directing personal remarks at CNN's Kaitlan Collins, commenting on her appearance and comparing her to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Saturn retrograde often exposes the shadow side of Aries: performative toughness, machismo, and the misuse of power through personal attacks rather than leadership.
Another striking development is the growing fracture within the President's own political coalition. Firebrand podcaster Alex Jones, who became nationally known for promoting false claims about the Sandy Hook shooting, has publicly called for the President's impeachment over the expanding conflict with Iran. As speculation grows that the United States could move beyond limited strikes toward a broader ground operation, even some of the President's most loyal supporters are openly questioning his leadership.
Another story to watch is Senator Mitch McConnell's prolonged absence from public life. He has not been seen publicly since his hospitalization on June 14, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has now publicly demanded that McConnell either appear and demonstrate that he is fit to serve or resign, while also urging Senate Majority Leader John Thune to investigate the situation if greater transparency is not provided.
Even some of the world's most influential figures are being confronted publicly. In a recent interview with The Economist, editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes asked Elon Musk whether he understood why so many people dislike him because of the harm critics believe his actions have caused. It was a striking moment, watching one of the world's wealthiest and most influential people being challenged directly about power, accountability, and public perception. His South Node is in Leo, and he came unglued at the suggestion he was not adored by all.
Is AI the Next Bubble?
As we move toward the Aquarius Full Moon, another Aquarian theme may be approaching a turning point: artificial intelligence.
Aquarius rules technology, innovation, and the future. Pluto exposes what has been hidden. One story I'm watching closely is growing concern that some AI companies are using accounting practices to keep massive debt off their balance sheets, creating the appearance of stronger financial health than may actually exist. Critics have begun comparing the situation to Enron, where complex accounting obscured financial reality until the entire structure unraveled. If those concerns prove well-founded, the Aquarius Full Moon conjunct Pluto could coincide with increased scrutiny of the financial foundations of the AI boom. One development I'll also be watching is whether major U.S. companies begin adopting Chinese AI models, which could signal another significant shift in the global AI race.
The Higher Expression of Aquarius
Yet this week isn't only about systems under pressure.
As the North Node enters Aquarius, we're also being reminded how deeply connected we are.
The World Cup showed millions of people celebrating together across borders and cultures. I recently saw a mother share on Threads that her young child asked, "How are the people on the other side of the world doing?" The question sparked hundreds of responses from people around the globe sharing photos of their neighborhoods, families, and daily lives.
That is Aquarius.
Technology isn't only something that divides us. At its best, it helps us find one another.
Eclipse Season Begins
We're also officially in eclipse season, a time of collective change. The next New Moon is a Leo Solar Eclipse, and from this point forward, events often begin accelerating. Eclipse stories often begin unfolding weeks before the eclipse itself, which is why life can suddenly feel like it's moving at warp speed.
If you'd like to better understand how eclipses interact with your natal chart and where they may bring important beginnings, endings, or turning points, I created a short video called Eclipse Secrets Revealed. You can learn more and get it here.
Your Leo Eclipse Story
If Saturn retrograde has you feeling isolated or discouraged, let this be your invitation to seek community. Join the mahjong group. Take the art class. Volunteer. Find an online community if there isn't one nearby. Whatever lights up your Leo heart, there are people somewhere in the world who share that same passion.
The Leo Solar Eclipse also marks the beginning of a new chapter. Leo invites you to rediscover joy, creativity, play, and heartfelt self-expression. Perhaps your eclipse story isn't about achieving more. Perhaps it's about laughing more, creating more, making new friends, or giving yourself permission to do something simply because it delights you.
The higher expression of Aquarius reminds us that we don't have to grow alone. The higher expression of Leo reminds us that joy isn't selfish. When we embrace what lights us up, we inspire others to do the same.
Growing Tall Together
The challenge of this moment isn't whether the tall poppies will be cut down.
It's whether we'll create a world where more people feel safe enough to grow tall together.
