Pride Goeth Before the Fall

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system. Everything revolves around it. In astrology, Leo speaks to identity, creativity, leadership, visibility, and the courage to let yourself be seen. Leo rules royalty, leaders, celebrities, the golden child, and people who have been elevated above the crowd.

But Leo also brings the drama.

The Fall of Kings

The shadow of Leo can be arrogance, vanity, entitlement, narcissism, and the belief that the rules that apply to everyone else somehow don't apply to you.

We have already watched this symbolism unfold within the astrology community, where controversy surrounding the words and historical claims of a prominent teacher created an enormous reckoning around leadership and accountability. A leader who had been placed on a pedestal was suddenly facing consequences and losing status.

One of the major themes I'm watching during this eclipse season is narcissistic collapse. What happens when someone has built an identity around being powerful, exceptional, admired, or indispensable, and reality no longer supports that identity?

Hubris meets reality.

We may see leaders, celebrities, royalty, executives, or other elevated figures abruptly exit stage left. And we may experience smaller versions of the same story in our own lives.

Invasion, Territory, and the Eclipse Path

Another theme that has already emerged is invasion.

We've seen it in the recent migrant crisis involving Ceuta, the Spanish territory on the North African coast. Now there are reports involving a MAGA-aligned American oil company attempting to establish drilling operations in Greenland without the necessary local permission.

That caught my attention because Greenland sits directly beneath the path of this eclipse, with the eclipse also visible across parts of Europe. When places underneath an eclipse path begin appearing prominently in the news before the eclipse even arrives, I pay attention.

The symbolism isn't necessarily limited to military invasion. It can be about crossing boundaries, entering territory where you haven't been invited, taking resources, or believing you are entitled to something that belongs to someone else.

We're also living through a period of notable geological and hostile cyber activity. Without becoming alarmist, eclipse season is a good time to double-check your emergency supplies. Make sure you have cash, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, food, and whatever else you would need if services were temporarily interrupted.

Preparedness isn't fear. It's common sense.

The Special One Versus the Group

This eclipse is especially intense because there is so much energy concentrated in Leo. The Sun and Moon are joined by Mercury and Jupiter, creating a powerful emphasis on the sign. Across the sky sits Pluto in Aquarius.

Leo says, I am special; you need to pay attention to me! Aquarius says, Power belongs to the group, and Pluto intensifies the struggle.

We're watching versions of this conflict play out everywhere, including through political leaders attempting to consolidate power while institutions, communities, and groups push back. Pride and ambition can become dangerous when someone becomes convinced that only they have the answer.

This is also a South Node eclipse, giving it a draining, releasing quality. Something connected with the shadow of Leo is being emptied out.

Pride Goeth Before the Fall

Leo is a fixed sign. Fixed signs can have extraordinary endurance, loyalty, and determination. But they can also dig in.

When pride combines with fixed-sign stubbornness, people can refuse to change direction even when the evidence says they should. Nobody wants to admit they were wrong. Nobody wants to lose face. Nobody wants to be the first person to back down.

A manageable conflict can then become enormous simply because someone's ego won't allow them to change course.

It's synchronicity that The Odyssey, one of the world’s great stories about pride, leadership, temptation, struggle, and the long journey home, is part of the cultural conversation around this eclipse period. The ancient warning remains relevant: hubris has consequences.

Check Your Own Crown

It's easy to watch powerful people implode and think this eclipse is about them.

But eclipses are personal, too. Look at the house in your natal chart containing 20° Leo. That's where the eclipse is asking you to pay attention.

Where has pride become a problem?

Where are you refusing to bend because changing your mind feels like losing?

Where do you need applause, recognition, or validation?

Where have you confused being admired with being loved?

And where are you making yourself smaller because you're afraid of being criticized?

Protect What You Love

Relationships may also need extra care during this eclipse period. Pride can turn a small disagreement into a rupture. Someone may say something they can't take back. Fixed positions can create unexpected upheaval, and relationships already under strain may reach a breaking point.

Ask yourself whether winning the argument is worth losing the relationship.

Sometimes courage means standing your ground. Sometimes courage means apologizing and admitting you were wrong. And sometimes courage means recognizing that something really does need to end.

Solar eclipses open doors. I often describe them this way: you walk through a door, turn around, and discover there's a wall behind you. You can't simply return to what existed before.

Something new is beginning. But because this is a South Node eclipse, moving forward may first require putting something down.

Let it be the part of your ego that has become too heavy to carry. And then shine bright like a diamond.
