Aries Full Moon: Courage, Conflict and the Wounds That Demand Attention

The Full Moon at 3° Aries arrives on September 26 at 12:48 pm ET with fire, courage and the desire to move forward. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It represents independence, initiative and the will to survive. This energy can help us stop hesitating, advocate for ourselves and take action on something that matters.

Use this Full Moon to move your body, release pent-up energy and reconnect with your strength. Take a walk, dance, exercise or do something that reminds you that you are alive and capable. 

Aries does not wait for permission. It acts. But action without awareness can become impulsive, reactive or destructive.

When Pain Turns Into Anger

This Full Moon is ruled by Mars at 29° Cancer, the final and most urgent degree of the sign. Cancer is associated with family, homeland, ancestry, belonging, and emotional security. Mars feels uncomfortable in Cancer because anger doesn't always move in a straight line here. It can simmer beneath the surface before erupting.

Mars is also square Chiron in Aries, bringing wounds connected to identity, survival, and belonging to the forefront. Collectively, we may see the self-inflicted wounds created by tribalism and division within a country bubbling up to the surface.

People may be upset for all kinds of reasons. Family conflict, political divisions, injustice, financial pressure, war or a deeply personal situation may reach a breaking point. Be mindful of your emotional state and the emotional temperature around you. Anger can tell us that something is wrong, but we still get to decide what we do with it.

The Moon is separating from Neptune and moving toward Saturn, suggesting a journey from confusion, grief or disillusionment toward consequences, boundaries and accountability. The challenge is to remain courageous without becoming consumed by rage.

The Unanswered Questions Surrounding Nolan Wells

For the United States, the case of Nolan Wells reflects some of the painful themes of this Full Moon.

Nolan was an 18-year-old Black college student whose body was found near Horn Island, Mississippi, after he disappeared during a July Fourth outing with friends. A grand jury recently declined to recommend criminal charges, stating that it found no credible evidence of criminal conduct. Yet both the state medical examiner and an independent forensic pathologist classified the cause and manner of Nolan’s death as undetermined.

In this week’s Celestial Insights podcast episode, “Absence of Malice,” I said I expected a turning point in the case. That turning point arrived on the final day of Virgo season when the grand jury recommended that the case not move forward. Then the Sun entered Libra, the sign of justice, and the demands for answers grew louder.

Attorneys and experts working with Nolan’s family have since shared key details from the state autopsy and a forensic examination of his phone. They say the autopsy documented no fluid or debris in his airways, while the phone analysis indicated that Snapchat data had been deleted after Nolan last used the device. The district attorney disputes the suggestion that someone accessed the phone after Nolan disappeared, and the meaning of the digital evidence remains contested.

The official cause and manner of death remain undetermined, and Nolan’s family continues to ask for greater transparency and further investigation.

The case evokes painful historical memories, including the story of Emmett Till. The circumstances are not identical, but the death of a young Black man surrounded by unanswered questions touches a deep ancestral wound in America. Mars in Cancer square Chiron in Aries reminds us that wounds connected to race, homeland and belonging do not disappear simply because an institution declares a matter closed.

The Story May Not Be Over

Venus and Mercury will both turn retrograde, suggesting that stories involving relationships, resources, information and justice may be revisited. New evidence could emerge, previous decisions could be reconsidered and conversations that appear finished may begin again.

A retrograde does not guarantee a particular outcome, but it reminds us that what looks final may not be final. Keep hope alive. Something meaningful or constructive may still emerge from circumstances that currently feel discouraging.

This applies to our personal lives as well. An old relationship, unresolved conversation or unfinished emotional matter may return for another look. We may discover information that changes our understanding of the past. The purpose is not always to restore what was lost. Sometimes we revisit a situation so we can finally understand it, repair it or release it.

Choose Courage Over Rampage

Aries energy can become combative when it feels threatened. Mars in Cancer may make disagreements feel intensely personal, especially when they involve family, identity, safety or loyalty.

Before reacting, ask yourself:

Is this situation truly threatening me, or is it activating an old wound?

Am I acting courageously, or am I acting impulsively?

Will my response move the situation toward truth and accountability, or simply create more damage?

This Full Moon does not ask us to suppress our anger. It asks us to use it wisely. Anger can become the fuel that helps us protect the vulnerable, demand answers, establish boundaries and refuse to look away.

Be bold. Be brave. Move your body. Speak clearly. Protect your peace. Most importantly, don't let someone else’s chaos determine your actions.
