This Taurus New Moon is not a soft, sleepy lunation about bubble baths and candles. This is a very dynamic New Moon, arriving with a lot of tension around money, resources, stability, and survival. It still offers positive energy of new starts, but figurative tectonic plates are shifting beneath us.
The New Moon perfects at 25° of Taurus conjunct Algol, one of the most feared fixed stars in astrology, associated with catastrophe, losing one’s head, and situations that spiral beyond control. And this New Moon is also conjunct Mercury, the trickster.
Oh my goodness, I have been having so much trouble with mercurial things lately. Technology glitches, scheduling confusion, communication mishaps, things disappearing and reappearing. Mercury reminds us that we are never as in control as we think we are. And at this New Moon, Mercury is moving through the final degrees of Taurus, nearing the 29th anaretic degree, often called the degree of crisis and decay.
Taurus rules money, food, land, agriculture, security, banking systems, and physical survival. So we are watching Taurean systems strain under pressure.
One of the major collective stories reflecting this energy is the growing financial disaster surrounding the World Cup in the United States. This event has been planned for years, with cities expecting massive revenue from tourism, restaurants, hotels, transportation, and entertainment. Mercury rules trade and commerce, while Taurus rules money and material resources.
Now we are beginning to hear more openly about the economic instability surrounding the event and concerns about whether the promised prosperity will materialize the way people expected. This is deeply symbolic of Mercury conjunct Algol in Taurus. What looked like a golden opportunity may become a financial burden or expose vulnerabilities in larger economic systems.
And it is striking astrologically that the World Cup officially begins June 11th under a balsamic Moon at zero Taurus, a phase associated with endings, depletion, and the emptying out of energy before rebirth. There is something about this cycle that feels like we are watching the old economic model draining out before something new emerges.
This New Moon also arrives while Uranus in Gemini trines Pluto in Aquarius, with both sextiling Neptune in Aries. These are long-term generational transits connected to technology, communication systems, surveillance, artificial intelligence, and power consolidation.
We are entering a period in which conflicts over resources and infrastructure will increasingly arise. Electricity, water, internet access, transportation systems, and supply chains are becoming political and economic battlegrounds.
Just this week, the AP reports that people in the LakeTahoe area received notices that power resources may be redirected to support data center expansion rather than residential communities. I’m sure there will be legal battles and resistance around this, but astrologically, this is exactly the kind of story we expect to see under these transits.
There is tremendous pressure to build out the technological future, but there is also a growing awareness that ordinary people may bear the cost through rising prices, resource shortages, or disruptions to everyday life.
On a personal level, Aries reminds us that people will fight when survival is threatened. "Mr. Wonderful" is learning this lesson as he tries to build a data center the size of Manhattan in Utah. There is going to be resistance over the next several years regarding privacy, autonomy, access to resources, and the growing use of technology to monitor and influence populations.
This New Moon is a wonderful time to set grounded intentions around your finances, budgeting, savings, and preparedness. Not from fear, but from wisdom.
Over the last year and a half, I’ve personally been slowly stocking up on practical emergency supplies in case of interruptions. I’ve talked for a while about having at least two weeks of food and water available, but recently I expanded that preparation further.
I bought backup battery systems and generators so I can continue working if there are power interruptions. This past week, I finally purchased a larger generator capable of powering my refrigerator as well. I personally live near a hospital, so I suspect my area may experience fewer disruptions than others, but I would rather prepare calmly now than panic later.
Preparedness is not fear-based. Taurus teaches us that stability is built intentionally, one practical step at a time.
This New Moon asks:
What do you truly need in order to feel secure?
What systems are you overly dependent upon?
And how can you build greater resilience in your life moving forward?
