Pisces Lunar Eclipse: Magnum Opus

One of the biggest themes I see for this Pisces lunar eclipse is Magnum Opus, your greatest work.

The eclipse season opener was the solar eclipse in Leo, and now we have the lunar eclipse in Pisces. To me, Leo and Pisces are two of the most creative signs of the zodiac. Leo creates from the heart. Pisces creates from the imagination, intuition, and the ability to see beyond what is immediately visible. People with strong Leo or Pisces energy can have a vision of something before anyone else can see it.

Pisces is expansive. On the high road, it is compassionate, empathetic, spiritual, artistic, and deeply intuitive. It can dissolve the boundaries between us and remind us that we are all connected. On the low road, that same lack of boundaries can become confusion, illusion, escapism, distraction, or idealizing people and situations that do not deserve it.

That is why I call this eclipse Magnum Opus. There is extraordinary creative potential here. Something that has lived in your imagination may be ready to take form.

The Watcher of the South

This eclipse is conjunct Fomalhaut, one of the four Royal Stars of ancient Persia, traditionally known as the Watcher of the South and associated with the Archangel Gabriel. Its symbolism speaks beautifully to Pisces: vision, inspiration, spirituality, idealism, and artistic gifts. 

This part of the sky also brings in the imagery of Cygnus, the Swan, adding another layer of artistry, transcendence, and the possibility of creating something extraordinary.

Pay attention to your dreams, synchronicities, intuitive hits, and sudden creative ideas. Write them down. This is the kind of astrology where inspiration can arrive seemingly from nowhere.

Expect the Unexpected

There is also volatility around this eclipse. Mercury and the Sun in Virgo square Uranus in Gemini, the Great Awakener, bringing the potential for startling information, technological disruptions, sudden changes in plans, and breakthrough discoveries.

At the same time, Mars in Cancer tensely squares Saturn in Aries. The two malefics are in the signs of their fall, which increases frustration and the potential for situations to escalate quickly.

Archangel Gabriel is also the divine messenger, associated with communication, revelation, and prophecy, and is often depicted blowing a trumpet to announce a momentous message or awakening.

This combination makes me think about the possibility of a black swan-type event, particularly one involving communications, transportation, technology, weather, or infrastructure. There is no reason to panic, but preparedness is always wise. Keep your devices charged. Keep gas in the car. Have water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and other basic emergency supplies available.

Pisces is a water sign, so emotions may run high. People may be more sensitive, distracted, reactive, or overwhelmed than usual. Give yourself and others a little grace.

The Masks Are Coming Off

Pisces rules masks, and eclipses reveal what has been hidden. We are already watching organizations face consequences for decisions that reveal something about their values and leadership.

After Hayden Panettiere's death, her account of how Neutrogena treated her after she publicly discussed postpartum depression resurfaced, prompting backlash and calls for a boycott. Neutrogena has since acknowledged that it made her feel unsupported. Callaway Golf is facing its own backlash after approving an advertisement that depicted a male golfer shoving a female golfer to the ground. The company apologized and is reviewing how it approved the ad. Target has apologized and removed a children's Halloween costume after critics said its imagery evoked Blackface and minstrel stereotypes.

These are marketing decisions, but marketing tells us something about the people making decisions behind the scenes. Under the Leo-Pisces eclipse story, leadership and messaging are both under the spotlight. Who approved this? Who thought this was acceptable? Who was in the room, and who wasn't?

The King Is Dead

Eclipses have historically been associated with the idea that "the king is dead." They can coincide with changes in leadership, status, and power.

We are watching enormous changes in the global power structure. U.S.-Canada trade negotiations have broken down, with Canada threatening retaliation, while the U.S. Treasury is escalating economic pressure on Iran and warning other countries about maintaining financial ties with Tehran.

We are living through a period when American dominance is being challenged, and the world is moving toward a more multipolar order. We do not yet know what will emerge on the other side.

That uncertainty is very Pisces.

Pisces asks us to recognize that we cannot control everything. Sometimes we have to release our attachment to knowing exactly where the river is taking us.

Something extraordinary may be trying to come through you. So create, journal your dreams, and pay attention to signs and signals. Keep the faith.

A note after writing: I wrote this blog before Dolly Parton died and before the devastating event in Nepal. The same eclipse energies are showing up in profoundly different ways.

With Dolly, a beloved figure has passed and is being mourned worldwide. Leo rules celebrity, while Pisces speaks to grief, mourning, and release. It feels like the turning of a page and the end of an era. There is also something beautifully Virgo about her legacy. Despite how brightly her star burned, she remained humble and never lost her connection to working people. She gave us “9 to 5,” an anthem about work and the working class, and she had both her Moon and Ascendant in Virgo.

In Nepal, we saw another expression of the eclipse symbolism through nature, with heat and water combining in a devastating way. Two very different events, but both speak to the larger story of this eclipse season: endings, release, and a world being reminded that some chapters cannot be reopened once the page has turned.
